Student Nick van Dullemen joins the DCRT for an internship

My name is Nick van Dullemen, a 3rd-year bachelor’s student in biomedical sciences at Leiden University. During my four-month internship at the DCRT, I will be working on evaluating the allele-specificity of an antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) targeting a specific mutation in a disease-causing gene. This project aims to see if the used ASOs inactivate the disease-causing mutated allele, while leaving the wild-type allele intact. Eventually, if the ASOs turn out to be allele-specific they could possibly be used to decrease the disease burden in the future. During my internship, I will mostly be focused on performing transfections, RNA extraction and several types of PCR to test the allele-specificity of the ASOs.

Welcome to the DCRT, Nick!
